I was born and raised in a small rural town in Indiana. I recently moved here with my husband, Jason, for work. We are both Optometrists in Chattanooga. We met at Indiana University School of Optometry. We enjoy any outdoor adventure, and I am an avid runner. Athletics and fitness have always been a major part of my life. My father played Division I college basketball and always had my sister and I in many sports as youngsters. In highschool, I was a four sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. I also was very blessed to have received a scholarship to play volleyball at a Division I college in Indiana. I am a strong believer that fitness is the BEST antidepressant of all!!! Who doesn't feel more relaxed and energized after a nice good sweat????
I have always enjoyed running as my best stress reliever. Lately, I have tried to broaden my fitness horizon by alternating running with spinning as well as swimming. There were so many muscles I didn't even realize I had when I started swimming:)
My fitness goals involve continuing to try new exercises and to have an open mind about other fitness specialties. I also hope to improve my relationship between my body and my mind regarding fitness. Too often, I find myself going through the motions without considering my breathing and my muscles being worked. I also plan on including stretching as a daily routine to maintain my flexibility as I age.
As a practicing optometrist, I directly see how diet and exercise can affect eye health both positively and negatively. I hope to share my knowledge of health and fitness with my patients to impove their quality of life.
