I began taking and then teaching yoga in 2003, as a way of dealing with the constant physical demands on my body as a professional Singer/Dancer. I had an old knee injury that got inflamed periodically and was affecting my longevity in the business. Yoga changed my whole world! Healed my body, helped my stress levels, and leaned me down in ways that traditional cardio and strength had previously not been able to do...I suspect that for me that had to do with the stress component, less inflammation, and no longer over-eating due to stress, plus the lengthening and strengthening aspects of yoga.
I first began teaching out of necessity, as our teacher was leaving, and I had attended a 2 day seminar on teaching with her. Who knew my passion for helping others get healthy and fit would grow so much that 9 years later, I would end my 14 year career as a professional singer/dancer to pursue a full-time career as a fitness professional?
(I taught yoga a few times a week while performing all those years.)
Studied with Yahweh Yoga in 2009 to get my RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) and YYT (Yahweh Yoga Teacher---a specific style, like Ashtanga or Anusara or Iyengar, etc), and also opened my own LLC, Vessels of Clay Yoga.
Semi-retired from performing at the end of 2011 to expand my business into Vessels Of Clay Fitness/Health/Yoga. Over the course of 2012, I became a Beachbody coach and certifed to teach Hip Hop Hustle (hip hop cardio class...those who love zumba will love this!), PiYo Strength (a mix of Cardio, Strength training, Yoga and Pilates...think YOGA BOOTCAMP), and Turbokick.
I received my Primary Group Exercise Instructor Certification from AFAA earlier this year.
As of May 2nd, 2014, I will have my Raw Food Chef Level 1 Certification, a program developed by Alyssa Cohen.
I am also currently working on my Nutrition Certification from Precision Nutrition.
I love helping people feel better in their bodies, love themselves, and achieve their dreams...and have fun while doing it!
