Doris Fredericks

DORIS C. FREDERICKS, MEd, RD, FADA, RYT

                     

For the past 25 years, Doris has been President of Continuing Development Inc. and the

Executive Director of the Choices For Children division. Doris directs the multiple service,

child care and parent support non-profit organization, which is headquartered in San Jose, CA.

The organization sponsors the Child and Adult Care Food Program in 135 child care centers

and 300 family child care homes. As a Dietetic Preceptor, she provides a 3 month Food

Service and Community placement for San Jose State University Dietetic Interns.

 

For the past 4 years she has been teaching Yoga as a certified Yoga Instructor (RYT).

Trained by YogaFit, she teaches all levels, in a Hatha, vinyasa syle. With classes in senior, restorative and therapeutic yoga.

she relates well with the beginner yoga participant.

In addition, she combines her Dietetics knowledge and Yoga awareness to teach Mindful Eating.

 

As part of her work in child nutrition, she has been co-directing the

Santa Clara County Childhood Feeding Practices Collaborative and has developed the

specialized parent education to support behavior change and prevent childhood obesity.

She has developed a variety of foundation funded projects what have focused on changing the

environments in child care facilities and instituting best practices promoting healthier behaviors.

she has taught child care providers at a state level to be 'Yoga facilitators" for young children.

Active in the California and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Doris is past President of

California Dietetic Association, was an elected member of the Commission on Dietetic

Registration, and in 2011/2012 she was Chair of the ADA Ethics Committee.

Involved for 25 years with Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG, she was Chair and received

the PHCNPG Outstanding Member of the Year Award in 2008.

Leisure time is spent traveling and teaching Yoga.
