My intention as a yoga teacher is to lead students through class sequences that provide a physical workout and the opportunity to clear the mind, relieve stress, and open to a more expansive state of being.  I facilitate awareness by guiding students to pay conscious attention to physical sensations and body alignment, fluctuations of the mind, and the movement of breath and energy through their bodies during the practice of asana (postures), pranayama (breathwork) and meditation..

 

Part of the skill of teaching yoga lies in facilitating this awareness of body, mind and spirit without alienating students who are new, unsure or suffering from self-doubt - - students should be empowered to explore their unique experience of yoga, rather than told how to feel.  I create a welcoming environment and earn students’ trust by leading classes that are lighthearted, fun and, above all, safe.  The flow and direction of my classes are planned intelligently, based on situational realities and the students present - -classes can range from slow and gentle to quite vigorous and heat-building, depending upon the intention.  Regardless of the vigor or “level” of the yoga class, the desired  result is the same:  at the conclusion of each class, students should feel more integrated, or “whole,” than when they first stepped onto their mats.
