Kay Smith began her yoga journey in 1979 and has since continued a regular yoga and meditation practice. She used her personal practice as a guide to the healing dance of the heart and soul. Her passion and aim is to create a nurturing and welcoming environment for others to learn and practice the art of Yoga and Meditation as well as adapting healthy, nutritional lifestyles.
Kay received her 200 hour yoga certification in 2002 through the Yoga School of Nichols Hills in Oklahoma City, OK, studying Ayur Yoga (a blend of Iyengar/Ashtanga/Hatha Yoga with Ayurvedic principles). She then received her 500 hour certification in 2010 through the Yoga School of Therapeutics. She is qualified to teach a variety of yoga styles - hatha, iyengar, ashtanga, yin, restorative - as well as being very adept in teaching meditation through guidance, chant and vipassana.
Expanding upon her knowledge she is also trained and certified in the Joseph Pilates Matwork (2004). She gracefully combines the practice of yoga and pilates into her classes. Some of her influential teachers include Aadil Palkivala, Max Strom, Judith Lasater, Erich Schiffman, Paula Tortillano receiving much knowledge from each.
Attending one of Kay's classes is always a treat as her ability to read her student's body is profound. She has the unique ability to sequence her classes to those who are in attendance. She owned and operated Om Yoga & Wellness Center through 2018 offering Yoga, Pilates, Massage, Yoga Retreats and various topics of workshops such as myofacial release, essential oil practices, nutrition to name a few.
Kay wants everyone to have a good experience through her classes, whether it be their first or are a regular student. She believes it should fun, playful yet a way for others to feel a true connection to their body, at that moment. She has been teaching now for 25 years and loves being witness to the awareness that occurs every time. She loves spending time with her family, sewing, gardening and has been a Hospice volunteer sewing memory bears since 2012.
Kay believes that we never stop learning and lives that belief by doing continued education and self study.
Loving every student, loving every breath, loving every moment!
