As a young girl I began dance lessons at age 3. My love for dance grew over the years, and when I entered college I majored in Dance Education. However, after my first year at Brigham Young University, my eyes were opened to the world of fitness, nutrition, and health promotion. I changed majors and loved my studies for the remainder of my college years, right up until graduation, and beyond. As a poor college student, I worked on campus at their Health center for 20 hours a week. It was a good job, simply sitting at a desk and scheduling appointments, answering phones, etc. My junior year of BYU was a turning point for me. I took a class called "Aerobic Dance Teaching Techniques." I had to wait until my junior year for this because of the many prerequisites it had before I could enroll. During that class I shadowed a faculty member all semester and participated in her aerobic classes. At the end of the semester my final grade was based on an observation of my class instruction. After completion of this, I was offered a teaching position on campus and taught 2 sections (each semester) of aerobics. It was about 4 hours a week of actual class instruction, but paid much better than my 20 hour/week campus job at the health center. This experience "fueled my fire" for fitness and passion for helping others improve their health. For me to get paid to do something I loved so much was just a dream come true! That was over 21 years ago, and I have been teaching fitness classses (on average 10/week) ever since. I have loved attending SCW Mania conventions, IDEA conventions, TRX trainings, Zumba certifications, etc. throughout the years. These have allowed me to stay current with the fitness trends and grow and improve as an instructor.
One of the highlights of my teaching career happened in 2004 when I traveled to Jamaica through FitBodies, Inc. and was the guest instructor for a week. What a wonderful experience it was to meet people from around the world and share our love of fitness in such beautiful surroundings.
When I'm not busy teaching group exercise classes I love spending time with floral design, reading, cooking, traveling, volunteer work, and mostly spending time with my husband of 21 years and our 4 children.
