Kathryn Henderson

Hi!  My name is Katy Henderson and I am a native of Williamsburg, Virginia.  I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors Degree in Business with a concentration in finance.  After many years in the corporate world, I decided to stay at home to raise my children.  During that time, I stumbled upon YOGA and fell head over heels in love!  Once I recognized all the benefits of yoga, I knew I wanted to share it with others.  I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training certification with The Institute of Health and Healing in the Integral style of yoga.  I then went on to pursue my 500 hour yoga teacher training certification with Yax Yoga.  My 200 hour certification was in a gentler style of yoga with a large emphasis on the philosophy and other 7 limbs of yoga in addition to the physical practice.  With my 500 hour certification, we focused more on the physical and anatomical nature of yoga.  Yax Yoga is at it's core a therapeutic way of sequencing and teaching that keeps students safe and challenged in their vinyasa style classes.  Since completing my 200 hour certification I have taught more than 1,000 hours of yoga classes earning me the E or experienced 200 hour yoga certification.   I also trained under Dr. Steffany Moonaz, PhD in Yoga for Arthritis.  My variety of trainings have shown me both ends of the spectrum from gentle and relaxing to intense and challenging.  In addition I am qualified to teach yin yoga, yoga sculpt, and barre.

I also have experience teaching meditation, chakra balancing, journaling and creativity, yoga philosophy (including The Eight Limbs of Yoga).  I have taught a wide range of atmosheres from luxury resorts to elementary schools.  I find beautiful benefits to every environment and love sharing all aspects of yoga.  In recent years I have opened my own yoga studio, called Studio South (www.studiosouthwilliamsburg.com).  At the studio we offer the combination of yoga and southern hospitality.  We focus on top notch customer service and instruction that is both therapeutic and challenging, all in a spa-like atmostphere.  I also lead a 200 hour yoga teacher training school focusing on all of the topics that I mentioned above.  Outside of family and yoga my other love is travel!  I love exploring different places and cultures.  I have been fortunate enough to visit some incredible resorts and destinations.  From Bora Bora to Mexico and Europe, I love them all.  Since I have enjoyed 5 star resorts as a guest, I feel that I have a great understanding of what working at one of these resorts would require and the extremely high level of customer service and quality instruction these resorts would be looking for.  The combination of travel and yoga seem like a wonderfully natural fit for me!
