Heather Starr

Heather has been practicing yoga for over 16 years and has been rolling out her mat in yoga studios across the planet. A nomad at heart, Heather has found herself residing for the last 15 years in Western Australia.

Founder and Creator of Starr Light Yoga, as well as Founder and Director of the South West Yoga Fest, Heather was first introduced to Yoga in 2007 in Montreal, Canada, her home and native land. After achieving a diverse educational background, Heather broke away from the 9-5 office job life, and moved to the breathtaking islands of the Bahamas. She began to practice yoga regularly there and studied the Foundations of Yoga and completed her 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training in Costa Rica with the Marianne Wells Yoga School in 2009.

After completing her training in Costa Rica, Heather headed for a new life in Australia where she founded her two yoga businesses.  In order to continue her evolution of understanding and help compliment our Yang lifestyles and vigorous Vinyasa practices, Heather completed her level 1 & Level Healing Art of Yin Yoga Teacher Training in 2018 and 2019 respectively, in Perth, Western Australia.

With a BIG love for the ocean, it only made sense for Heather to expand her practice and complete her SUP Yoga Certification, this certification was achieved in November 2019 with the Rip Curl School of Surf in Bali. Heather offers weekly SUP yoga in her local town in South West, Western Australia over summer.

In 2021 Heather obtained her Level 1 and Level 2 Sound Therapy training certification, and opened up her own Yoga studio in Yallingup, Western Australia. Heather and is now offering Sound Meditation along side most of her classes, as well as one on one sound massage treatments. Heather has also most recently completed her Advanced 500 hour Yoga Psychology Teacher Training with Ashley Tuner; this training focused on the Psychology of Yoga and the Neuroscience behind the practice which has led Heather's practice in a new direction in terms of focusing on mental health and the benefits yoga has for anxiety and depression.

Heather teaches regular yin and slow flow and sound meditation classes in her studio in Yallingup, Western Australia as well as group classes for guests staying at local resorts and members of the local gym.
