Nicole Oliver

Namaste. I'm Nicole and I adore the transformative and holistic healing self-work that the Yoga practice ignites. My Yoga offerings draw from my experience as a somatic psychotherapist trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Yoga Teacher. I weave together the power of movement, breath, sound, mindfulness, and somatic healing.

In taking the 200-hour YTT training at Yoga Space Toronto that covered both Hatha and Vinyasa styles and 30-hour Restorative Yoga training with Hali Schwartz, I very much enjoy teaching and practicing both Rajasic (dynamic, fiery, sun) and Tamisic (relaxing, calm, moon) styles of Yoga. I have also taken advanced YTT in accessible Yoga practices for seniors and persons with mobility challenges and chronic pain management issues. I have further specialized in Yoga Therapy for Pain Care with Neil Pearson, Physiotherapist and Yoga Therapist.

Currently, I share a weekly class at Lotus Yoga and Wellness Studio in Courtenay, British Columbia. The class is called "Move to Soothe", which is a grounding Hatha flow to discharge built-up energy and restore equilibrium. This transitions into gentle, supported Restorative Yoga postures to calm and nourish the body. This class ends with deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra meditation in Savasana to invite stillness and rest. The Move to Soothe class invites participants to tend to their inner gardens, turning the soil within to support growth and transformation in alignment with the seasons.

I have taught accessible community Yoga classes with the First Nations (indigenous) community of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. In collaboration of with Six Nations Health Services and the Youth and Elders Centre, I guide Restorative Yoga classes and Chair Yoga classes; Yoga for every body and everybody. Taking yoga out of the studio to meet people where they are at in their community spaces be it a greenhouse, community garden, school, seniors' residence, health centre, or sunny vacation spots - very much speaks to my adventurous heart and are my passion projects.

While teaching in Toronto at the Sundara Yoga Studio, I hosted classes called "Hot and Sweet". These classes began with a creative, fun, power Vinyasa flow and ended with sweet releasing restorative postures.

My classes will incorporate breathing exercises, physical postures, joint-freeing movements, chanting, mindfulness and meditation allowing for participants to work from the outside in and from the inside out. Having additional Yoga Training in Restorative Yoga and Adaptive Yoga: Teaching Seniors and People with Limited Mobility, I am able to a ensure sensitive, safe, supportive and accessible learning environment. I offer modifications to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of my students. From Power Vinyasa Flow, classical Hatha, to more Restorative, I am able to create classes that balance within.
