I enjoy high energy kickboxing, strength training with a professional trainer and yoga in classes and home practice. My fitness goal is to keep myself fit enough to enjoy any activity with balance and serenity. My fitness style is highly energetic and fun, with care for technical precision. I have been kindly compared to Tigger and border collies, exuding energy.
My earliest fitness experience included Track and Field and Football in high school. My University degrees in Bachelors of Science with majors in Psychology, Biochemistry and Geophysics brought me to a scientific appreciation for physiology, biomechanics and importance of fitness for everyone. Working as a geophysicist was very challenging and enjoyable and allowed me time to pursue fitness training and leading on a volunteer basis. My earliest classes (commencing 1988) were high and low impact aerobics (crazy eighties!) in chartered classes where half my participants lost their employment over 6 months. They all kept returning to my classes, often thanking me for providing a fun, dynamic environment where success was the only option.
After some years I migrated into Aquafit where the water and my energy could mix for a challenging and playful class. Over the years I have discovered and apprenticed some 14 new fitness instructors for the YMCA. I have trained in many varieties of water exercise, including shallow and deep water workouts, Aqualogics, Aquatic Boot Camp and tether classes.
My yoga path opened about 16 years ago with Ashtanga style yoga which nurtured my soul and sanity through a career change into corporate management. I completed a mind opening 200 hour yoga teacher certification course with the Iyengar style in 2015 and have been leading yoga classes since. While I appreciate the precision of Iyengar, I prefer to lead a more flowing and dynamic Hatha style of yoga that has been described simply as “deep.”
