I was a healthy soccer player in High School. no problems, could play all day. loved being active. Then work to be an adult, paying bills, and then family came along. I was married 13 years, then I raised my 2 daughters as a single mom after my divorce when they were 10 and 13 years old. I worked at a desk for a hospital and then I started getting back pain, was diagnosed with arthritis from sitting. So I started to become more active, and I was always interested in Physical Therapy, so I went to school, became a Certified Physical Therapy Aide and applied at the hospital so now I was working full time behind a desk and part time as a Physical Thearpay aide.
Well winters are long in NJ. I slipped on ice getting out of my car, I felt a pull from my ankle all the way up to my neck. HERNIATIONS oh no there goes my life for 2.5 years. MD had me in and out of work. Bed rest, muscle relaxers, Accupuncture, Tens units, Chiropractors, TMJ specialists, you name it I went through it all with Ibuprofen. I was always in pain, always miserable, and gained 40 lbs. It started to effect my family, I couldnt go to the park with my girls, I couldn't play softball with them, I couldn't walk the dogs any more. I was 30 something and felt 90. My co workers at physical therapy wanted to help me, they showed me the exercises to keep doing for the rest of my life. I actually started feeling better, stronger, happier. I started to live life again, because it is possible to recover from an injury by using correct form and good posture. So I resigned my insurance billing job behind the desk, became a full time Physical Therapy Aide, and then I studied for my own personal needs how to become a personal trainer, to help my back, and to become healthier to avoid injuries in the future.
Well I am now 30 lbs lighter and feel stronger than ever, and can instruct anybody to do the same. I was layed off the physical therapy aide job due to cut backs in the hospital and started working for KS Fitness Inc., went to school to become a Certified Personal Trainer and enjoyed passing at the top of my class. I now work there and at the YMCA in Toms River, NJ.
I now work for Genesis Healthclubs in Overland Park Kansas, and Cameron Regional YMCA. I am a Personal Fitness Trainer, a Yoga Instructor and a Pilates Reformer Instructor. I love helping others reach their goals and their potential. I am kind of happy that I slipped in ice so I was forced to become in the fitness industry, which I couldn’t be more thankful.
