I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Teaching comes naturally. The goal of my class, while creating a fun environment and provding a good work-out, is to make sure my clients are feeling successful and not frustrated.
I am a young, active 62 year-old. I currently teach Zumba Gold and tailor the music to the age group of my students. I dont' do hip-hop, reggaeton or electronic. I alter the speed of the songs to the participants in each class and include many styles of dance into each class. We do salsa, cha-cha, merengue, swing, cumbia, zydeco, etc.
I was trained as a ballroom dance instructor and understand the need to cue and instruct students in doing the same step in numerous ways. While living in Hawaii for 13 years, I studied hula and performed and competed with a halau (troop.) I've studied African dance and have been to Guinea, West Africa with my teacher.
I just returned from 10 days in Cuba improving my salsa and taking lessons in 3 different towns from 3 dance companies. I have taught Zydeco in 3 towns in my area in Southwestern Colorado.
