Rachel Nelson

I have been an avid Yoga practitioner for 22 years, and recently received my 200 hour yoga certification after some friends said "you should teach yoga!"  I am currently teaching yoga part time at a community recreation center.  My "day" job is as an adjunct professor at Utah State University in the Recreation Resource and Management department.  I hold an M.S. degree from the University of Arizona specializing in Recreation Science.

Currently, I teach a very rewarding community yoga class in Moab, Utah twice a week.  The focus is all levels, and we highlight a different "target area" of the body every week.

In the past I have taught yoga as part of a climbing curriculum for the National Outdoor Leadership school.  In addition, I have  18 years of guiding experience as a professional climbing, sea kayaking, backpacking, road cycling, and mountain biking guide including international trips to Mexico. The most recent guiding/instruction position I held was with the world's first carbon neutral outfitter guiding extended mountain bike and multisport trips throughout the Western United states.

In my personal life, among other things,  I have sea kayaked the length of Baja, Mexico; climbed Denali- the highest peak in North America; and bicycled from California to the tip of Argentina.  I am Wilderness First Responder and CPR certified and have worked professionally as an EMT for Yosemite Search and Rescue- a prestigious professional rescue team in Yosemite National Park.  These days life has slowed a little, but is still exciting with raising my two girls ages 11 and 14. I live in the beautiful southern desert of Utah where I am still an avid cyclist, climber, and general outdoors-woman.
