Katherine Marr, MA, CCC – Mind-Body Counselling & Education:
In short, I am dedicated to helping anyone who wishes to learn how to live and die peacefully.
I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Vancouver. I am certified member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, a certified yoga teacher, and currently enrolled in an 800 hour yoga therapy certification program with Yoga Therapy Toronto. I have over twelve years experience in social services, youth and family intervention, counselling, group facilitation, program coordination, and teaching. I have always been deeply interested in understanding human behaviour, the human mind, and learning ways of reducing symptoms of suffering for healthier relationships with the self and others. I am trained/ certified in the Collaborative Problem Solving model (Tier 2), Restorative Circles, and Response Ability Pathways®through the Circle of Courage® philosophy of positive youth development. See my Recommended reads page for links and resources related to each of these approaches.
Since moving to Ottawa in 2011, I have completed several trainings related to mind-body approaches in therapy including mindfulness practices, various forms of meditation, and yoga therapy. I have a dedicated personal yoga and meditation practice and a passion for teaching and sharing the practices with others.
In my private therapy practice, I offer client-centered, strength-based counselling for youth and adults, and I incorporate mindfulness, meditation, and yoga practices that best suit the needs and interests of each client. My therapy services are also eligible for reimbursement for insured clients as I work under the supervision of registered Counselling Psychologist Dr. David Paré.
I also work for a local mental health treatment centre for teens. I currently teach yoga for patients/clients of local mental health programs. I am involved with and an advocate for community partnerships aimed at overcoming the barriers of access to mental health services as a means of addressing social justice issues that are prominent in our society.
Presenting challenges that I am specifically skilled in working with include:
- Depression, anxiety, and other mood complaints
- Emotional trauma
- Unhealthy lifestyle habits, including excessive consumption through addictions
- Stress and the impacts of stress on the mind, body, and relationships
