In 1997, a friend suggested to Tracy, a busy single mom of a one-year-old daughter, that she should try yoga. Tracy bought several VHS tapes, and it was love at first Om; however, there were no studios around then, no Internet, and with a lack of variety of videos, Tracy’s practice became off and on, but she always returned. Then in 2008, Tracy walked by the newly opened Wake Up Yoga, a half-block from her childhood home. Looking for a hobby now that her daughter was older and afraid to walk into an open level class, Tracy, quickly approaching 40 and unable to touch her toes, stamped out her cigarette and signed up for brand new beginners and hasn’t left the studio since.
With a desire to share the life-changing physical and mental benefits of yoga she’s enjoyed, In 2015, Tracy graduated from Wake Up’s teacher training program and is honored to have learned from Corina Benner; Felicia Graham Comisar; Tricia Bendick; Julie Pogafesky; and her mentor, Vera Ginsberg. In addition, Tracy has completed Yin training at Wake Up as well.
Tracy believes yoga is a balance of flexibility and strength; that you practice with the body you have today; that the advanced pose is the one you’re doing safely at that moment; that yoga is for everyone of all ages, shapes, and sizes; and that through physical asana the student can make space both body, mind, and soul. Tracy lives in South Philly, close to her childhood home and family, with her her now almost grownup daughter Angela, who is the love of her life; her hyper dog, Cody; and two misbehaving kittens, Betty and Veronica.
