I'm Don Wilks, a certified yoga instructor born in Texas, but really a citizen of the world these days. After a grueling professional career, I jumped off the corporate bandwagon in 2000 and since then have been living a life with siginificantly more meaning. I founded and operate The Global Community for Education, a small, grassroots nonprofit that has built four schools in very rural Nepal. GCE is not a paying job, but it is a passion.
My two other passions are travel and yoga. I travel the globe approximately six months of every year. I love to meet people, understand cultures, and experience what places have to offer. I discovered yoga in 2002 as a way to stay fit during my travels. It was the physical aspect, Hatha, that got me interested, but I came to appreciate and practice the other seven limbs of yoga.
After significant training and practice, I found many friends seeking my assistnce with their yoga practice. I truly enjoy helping others and teaching what I know, so I pursued yoga instructor certification in 2014.
My practice emphasis is Vinyasa Flow and Power Yoga with a strong emphasis on proper alignment. I adjust my teaching to the level of the student and quite enjoy teaching the basics. I subscribe to one of my teacher's philosphies: "Do a little, but do it correctly."
