In high school, I was active but not what I would consider athletic. I was a cheerleader and took dance classes for several years. During my mid 30's, I completed in 3 marathons, then started to dabble with triathlons. I also decided to try bodybuilding competitions. (At that point, I also had a job as a fitness instructor. The local Y was looking for an instructor and I was approached because of my drive, determination and participation in the group classes. It was my second job, next to teaching Kindergarten.) P90X was a second, daily workout for me. I liked the challenge of the workout, the intensity of the program. I naturally gravitated to Insanity workouts next. I am also an independent accountability coach through Beachbody. I support people with their workouts and their nutrition.
I DO have what it takes to be better, fitter and stronger every day. Once I turned 40, I promised myself that for each birthday, I would be in better shape than the year before. I don't see age as an excuse to give up. I see my age as an opportunity to prove that I can do more! One quality I bring to the table is that I help people re-discover their inner strength.
Two years ago, I started understanding the importance of yoga and stretching, a part of my formal dance training that had been displaced by higher intensity activity. I eventually got certified as a PiYo instructor because I loved the focus on stretching, flexibility and core strength. Next, came my biggest passion yet. I got certified as a P90x instructor and I absolutely LOVE that format. A mix of tabata style cardio, upper and lower body strength and core work, it is a workout that can be easily modified for veterans as well as beginners.
I bring passion and determination to my classes. Each participant feels a connection with me because of my teaching profession and my passion for health. The workouts end up being more than just movement but more of a 60 minute time period of pure motivation, inspiration and a renewed belief in what the body is capable of. I am also CPR certified.
