Mark Mayes, is a 25+ year veteran of the Fitness industry. Mark began his fitness career when he was18 years old while working for the Jack LaLanne health club in San Diego, California. After moving back to Ohio, Mark returned to school to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Adult Fitness at The Ohio State University.

 

Mark started as an intern for the Central Ohio YMCA, became a full time staff member and at the time of his departure in 1991 was the Physical Director at the downtown Columbus YMCA. Mark started Fitness Resources, Inc., a personal training company, in 1991 and over the years he and his staff have trained clients and run fitness programs at private clubs, physician offices, and corporate fitness centers. Mark expanded Fitness Resources to two private studios and a corporate fitness center in Delaware, Ohio. In April 2008, Mark accepted the position as Director of the Harrison Park Recreation Center in the Short North District of Columbus. Mark also continues to maintain his Fitness Resources business through the Harrison location.

 

Mark is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Council of Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine Enhanced Qualification (exercise and older adults), and the YMCA. Mark is also certified in and practices a form of bodywork called "Polarity Therapy." For group instruction, he is certified in Spinning© and RiPP & Ride© by Schwinn. Mark was an Advisory Board Member of The Wellness Forum Foundation and a founding member and on the Board of Directors of the International Fitness Institute. Mark is a past member of the elite International Systematic TOUCH training team and is currently on the W.I.T.S. Faculty(World Instructor Training Schools).

 

Mark’s professional philosophy is to educate, motivate, and provide direction to individuals of all ages to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. His areas of expertise are general fitness training, strength training, swimming, running, and cycling programs. Mark’s goal is for clients to ultimately have the confidence and knowledge to take personal responsibility for their fitness regimen. Mark specializes in designing custom fitness programs for his diverse clientele - from athletes and busy professionals to senior citizens – a clientele that encompass a wide-range of fitness experience and goals.

l Lectured on "The Benefit of Manual Flexibility Training during a Strength Training Workout," International Fitness Institute CEC Workshop, including how to do PNF and static stretches, myofascial releases, and trigger/pressure point releases to improve flexibility and strength.

l Taught with Wayne Wescott Ph.D. and Mariah Liggett Ph.D. "Strength Training and Lifting Techniques" International Fitness Institute CEC Workshop

l Presented "Establishing a Working Relationship with the Media" Personal Training Conference, Baltimore

l Taught the Systematic TOUCH training program in Columbus and with Michael Youssouf in New York City.

l Worked as a fitness consultant with Ross Laboratories in Columbus Ohio.
