After teaching in the classroom for six years, I decided to stay home with my third child and teach virtually. While at home with my baby, I began exercising vigorously, attempting to lose my baby weight--and the extra thirty pounds that I gained after my first daughter--and keep myself active with such an inactive work-from-home job. With over five hours of online instructional time, I began to make changes in my daily lifestyle to make up for all of the required "seat work". I invested in three items to help keep me active: a gym membership, a treadmill desk and additional equipment for my home gym (weights, medicine balls, kettlebells). The gym membership changed my life! Not only did I meet so many new friendly faces, but my one-year-old also enjoyed the gym child care room as well. Four years and forty pounds later, I found myself working towards my Group Fitness Certificate. I had fallen in love with group fitness and made such wonderful friends through exercise that I wanted to extend my passion for heatlh and wellness to others. Guest instructing was my first chance to get in front of a large group of adults and there were many opportunities for subbing classes at my gym. Eventually my gym asked me to begin teaching a circuit class on Sunday mornings. This led to youth fitness classes over the summer and additional clinics offered through Hamburg Fitness. Currently, I teach a 5:45 a.m. class called AM H.E.A.T. (High Energy Athletic Training), Cardio Drumming, Circuit Blast and a HIIT class. I continue to strive for a healthy lifestyle by maintaining my Group Fitness Certificate through new workshops, programs and other certifications.
