Luba Lesychyn

Luba has been practicing yoga for more than 15 years and has been instructing for more than five years. Her classes are a distillation of several different yoga styles incorporating elements from Hatha, Kripalu, Ashtanga, Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga practices. Her extensive experience teaching in Toronto in private exercise centers (Summit Club), health and fitness clubs (Premiere Fitness Clubs) and in corporate settings (Royal Ontario Museum) has brought her in contact with students of all ages (from teens to 80+) and different levels of ability including absolute beginners, athletes working through injuries, skilled and advanced practitioners, and aging enthusiasts. Luba’s strength in teaching lies in her ability to cater to all levels of students, often within the same class. She specializes in gentler classes introducing people to their yoga practice and developing their flexibility, strength, muscle tone and breathing capacity. However, Luba is also accomplished in teaching dynamic flow yoga classes meeting the needs of those seeking vigorous and challenging workouts. Luba has an innate ability to link poses creating fluid movements that are safe and inspiring. She is constantly developing her practice and regularly introduces new techniques and poses to her classes that she has learned in workshops with internationally renowned yogis and yoginis such as Stephen Cope and Sean Corn. Luba also inspires the development of spirit through contemplative components, including guided meditations. Her students often “float” out of her classes feeling like the weight of the world has been lifted. And finally, Luba is a shining example to her students of the power and effectiveness of yoga after having overcome her own physical limitations and living a highly active life which includes running, skiing, kick boxing and weight training. Her extensive career in the corporate world and in a cultural institution combined with interests in the arts, film, music and dance keep her accessible and grounded in the real world. Her ongoing projects, such as screen writing, developing a documentary film and writing a humourous novel, provide for interesting and cheerful banter with her students before and after classes.
