Sitara Nadiya Mahmood

Sitara Nadiya Mahmood received her 200 Hour CYT in Costa Rica in 2016 at the Marianne Wells Yoga School. She took her first yoga class in 2005 at George Mason University and continued to take classes sporadically. In early 2012 Nadiya attended a slow flow class in Alexandria, VA that spoke to her. The teachers style and energy was felt in her heart, and that is when she realized where she belonged, on the mat. She became centered, grounded, and found a sense of belonging. Since that day she became a daily practitioner. Yoga brought love and peace into her heart and she realized it was her job to share this love with others. Nadiya asked friends and family to attend yoga classes with her and then slowly started making friends within the yoga community, with people who shared the same goals and mindset as her. Quickly she learned this was her passion and that this is what she was meant to do, share the joy of yoga with others. Yoga is so much more than movement, it is a lifestyle. Nadiya wants the world to enjoy not only the movement of yoga, but the breathing, spirituality, history and philosophy of yoga.

Nadiya's current mission is to get all people on the mat and show them that yoga can heal and bring peace as well as release stress in our chaotic lifestyles. Nadiya 200-hour RYT, is a Hatha yoga teacher who teaches many different styles including flow and Vinyasa classes. Currently she is teaching at Mount Vernon Athletic Club in Alexandria, VA and she also teaches private in home classes in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern, Virginia.
