Several years ago, I came in search of yoga, wanting a flexible and toned body. I was living in Nashville, TN at the time, and I came upon Mindful Motion Yoga, where I met my first yoga instructor, Cortni Saunders. Cortni immediately eased my fears of being a new yogi, she taught me how to open up, relax, and most importantly….HAVE FUN.
I was hooked.
In my typical perfectionist fashion, I wanted to learn and be everything yoga. So I enrolled in Cortni’s Yoga Teacher Training program. Unfortunately, my husband’s career required a move back to Baltimore in the middle of the program. I knew I had to find a place to continue my journey and education.
Back in Baltimore, I found Anjali Sunita at Baltimore Yoga Village. Anjali means heart center in Sanskrit. And that is what Anjali is to me. She has the sweetest heart and welcomed me to her “village” with open arms. I finished my yoga teacher training with her and along the way, I was fortunate enough to get pregnant. This happening during my training gave me a wonderful perspective of the woman’s body and I learned how yoga can make pregnancy easier, both through the hours of labor, and postpartum. After my daughter was born I decided to leave my high-paced, stressful job and teach yoga while raising her.
After having my second child, I went back to my training and completed my 500 hour yoga teacher training, finishing just last August.
My goal is to spread the word of yoga. Yoga is different for every.single.person. For some it’s just about breathing. For others it’s about healing an old sports injury. I want to work with my students to help them achieve their personal yogic goal, whatever that may be!
