I am a Health and Physical Education professional with an accomplished teaching, coaching, training and program management background. I am highly energetic and self-motivated to improve the lives of others through fitness and education. I am well organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Fitness and athletics as always been a huge part of my life, therefore my passion, education and work experience has prepared me for this role. While getting my degree in Physical Education and Health at Western Kentucky University (WKU), I played Volleyball on scholarship in their Division I program. After graduating, I began my career as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at WKU, but then quickly realized that teaching was my real passion.
I began my teaching career in a suburban High School setting in Indiana. I was a classroom Health teacher, Physical Education instructor and Varsity Volleyball coach for six years. During this time I was also a Kickboxing instructor (NETA) at the YMCA in Evansville, IN. While living in Evansville I worked at numerous Volleyball camps and also completed my Master’s Degree in Education. After getting married, I relocated to Richmond, VA. For three years I taught in an urban High School setting. In this position I instructed gifted inner city college-bound students not only in Health and Physical Education, but also in career and character education.
After moving to Cincinnati, OH I switched my focus to the American Heart Association (AHA). Through the AHA I worked to improve Physical Education programs by training Elementary PE teachers to utilize fitness testing and equipment. During my time at the AHA I learned how to motivate volunteers to become healthier and more active and I feel that would serve me well in this position. While in Cincinnati, I was also a Private Volleyball instructor at the Sports Express Volleyball Center. I assisted high school and college individuals on basic to advanced Volleyball skills, agility training and conditioning.
I have since been relocated indefinitely to Cornelius, NC and am currently staying at home with my two daughters. I have continued with my private Volleyball lessons as well as teaching Group Exercise at the LKN YMCA since October 2014, as well as Personal Training since February 2017.
I feel that fitness and education is the most important aspect in a person’s life, especially as they get older. I am currently Adult CPR/AED certified through the American Safety and Health Institute. I just renewed my AFAA (American Fitness Association of America) Group Exercise Certification and also am newly certified through AFAA for Personal Training. Although I am able to teach numerous types of classes (Cardio Strength, HIIT, Total Strength, Cardio Intervals) my main focus is on the Active Adult community. I completed AFAA’s Senior Hearts Training to better prepare me for this role.
