Gem Geyser is a lifelong artist who has always been innately drawn to spirals and circles. She picked up her first hoop in 2008 and has been obsessed with hoopdance ever since. She has performed at fairs, yoga retreats, drum circles and festivals throughout New England, and has studied hoopdance with Malcolm Baxter, SaFire, Anah Reichenbach (Hoopalicious), and Babz Robinson. She has also had the honor of studying with international hoopdance guru Deanne Love, and is a certified HoopLove Coach. Gem has been teaching classes, individual lessons, workshops, and playshops in fitness hooping, hooping for kids, and hoopdance for over 5 years. As a teaching artist employed Wesleyan University, she has also been able to share her love of therapeutic movement by teaching creative hoop expression classes to specialized populations including autistic teens and young adults in residential, educational, and community settings.
Gem was drawn to yoga in 2007 as a new mom caring for her two daughters. She describes her first class as a life-changing experience that transformed her into a devoted yoga practitioner. She is now a RYT-200 yoga instructor, and currently teaches weekly classes in addition to her weekly hoopdance classes. While she enjoys all forms of yoga, she is particularly fond of Vinyasa flow. Gem can't imagine her life without yoga and hooping, and she was thrilled to attend and complete Ohm Factory NYC’s Hoop Vinyasa Teacher Training in 2013. She’s excited to share her love and passion for both of these healing movement meditation practices as a teacher of both traditional yoga and Hoop Yoga/Hoop Vinyasa. Gem is also a certified Zumba instructor, and has extensive experience teaching dance fitness to adults, kids, and seniors.
Although she is a Yale-trained nurse psychotherapist with a Master's in Science in nursing, it was through her own hoop and yoga practices she realized the therapeutic power of meditation and movement. She has firsthand experienced the healing magic of remembering the the forgotten childhood ability to let go of the ego and simply play, dance, and move freely. All of her yoga and hoop classes and workshops are designed to encourage and facilitate confidence, playfulness, and joy while generating a sense of self-acceptance and peace. Her students describe her as patient, creative, encouraging and compassionate. Gem is committed to helping people of all ages and backgrounds to find health, happiness, inner peace, and personal discovery through the movement arts.About Gem
