Brian Bascome

Hello, my name is Brian and I am a USPTA certified teaching professional with a passion for developing players of all ages and abilities. I played varsity tennis for Penn State Altoona, where I won the AMCC Championship for #1 singles and #1 doubles. I currently am a tennis professional at the Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center, running programs for children ranging from 4-17-years-old. I also have experience working with adults in private and group settings.

Simultaneously with tennis, I obtained a masters degree in school counseling. I have experience mentoring children with issues larger than tennis for 3 years now, ranging from elementary to high school age. I currently advise children on a daily basis as a guidance counselor at Rickards Middle School. In addition to developing proper stroke technique, my background will facilitate the right mindset to win both on and off the court.

I always structure my teaching style around the ability and age of my students. Success early on is key, and I'm keenly aware of how the confidence factor plays in a tennis match. I start by asking my students what their long term goals are with tennis, and from there we create a map or plan on how to get there. This creates motivation during times of stress or when resiliency is needed. When developing proper stroke technique, I start off with small progressions. In tennis, you can't go from 0 to 60. Like a math equation, each step must be mastered before moving on to the next. I'm always aware of when we need to go back and break a stroke down further.
