DJ Docta was born in Jamaica and moved to the U.S. at an early age. In his adolescent years he was sent back to Jamaica for schooling, which molded his unique style of selecting and playing music. His obsession with music is no surprise to friends and family, since Doc has been musically inclined from an early age. Before moving back to Jamaica, he had already begun his collection of 45’s and perfecting his dancing skills by watching Soul Train and American Bandstand. Being the son of a musician (father), and music lover (mother) added to his musical development. Though it’s quite obvious Doc’s biggest influence comes from his native country of Jamaica, r&b, hip-hop, soul, and afrobeat have played an important role as well.
As a youngster, Doc frequented many family parties and functions with his mother. They attended American, West African and Caribbean events quite often, something he continued during his college years. Doc has gigged at major clubs, concert venues, and corporate events from California to Jamaica. He’s had guest appearances on major radio stations in both the Los Angeles and Houston markets.
