Turhan Berne

Hello my name is Turhan Berne and I have been playing tennis for 40 years and teaching professionally for 27 years.  I am certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and the PTR (Professional Tennis Registry). Over my teaching career, I have taught all ages and abilities of tennis players ranging from beginners to advanced players.  Many of my former students have played collegiately and one of my former students, Grace Min, plays professionally and is currently #128 in the world. 

Prior to teaching tennis, I attended college at Hampton University in Hampton, VA and received a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Biology.  Upon graduation, I taught Life Science at Dunbar-Erwin Middle School and College Biology at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA.  After three years of teaching in Virginia, my family and I moved to Warner Robins, GA and I taught Biology at Peach County High School in Fort Valley, GA and College Biology at Fort Valley State College. While teaching Biology in Fort Valley, I started my tennis teaching career part time at Tattnall Square Tennis Center in Macon, GA.  I fell in love with teaching tennis and after a year, I decided to focus solely on a career in tennis.  After 1 year of teaching at Tattnall, I moved to the biggest tennis facility in Macon, John Drew Tennis Center, and spent three years there where I apprenticed under Randy Stephens and obtained a solid teaching and management foundation in tennis.  In 1991 I moved to Atlanta and have been teaching in Atlanta ever since.

I addition to teaching tennis, I conduct about 30+ USTA sanctioned junior and adult tournaments, organize and conduct tennis fundraisers for charitable organizations and have a Personal, Professional, and Financial Development Business, The Berne Group.

I enjoy teaching all levels and ages and with children, enjoy adding teaching life skills in my tennis lessons.  I currently live in Norcross, GA with my wife Carol and have two adult children, Turhan and Briana Berne and three grandchildren.
