Practicing yoga has helped me heal from a very toxic work and personal life situation. After 23 years, I left a high-pressured job because my body, mind, and spirit could no longer keep pace with job demands. As a type A, high-achiever, I pushed myself to the brink, running a marathon at a sprinter’s pace for too long. Physically depleted and mentally exhausted, it was impossible to continue working in this overly-demanding fashion. I found myself with strange symptoms that were only getting worse. And at the same time, I was going through some pretty painful, life-altering personal experiences.
Working out at the gym definitely helped me deal with the hurt in my life. I was a self-proclaimed fitness nut who loved her daily gym route of weights and cycling, pushing through minor injuries, not always listening to my body. One day, I peeked in on a yoga class and thought it looked interesting and challenging. I started taking yoga primarily out of curiosity. And for the first time, I was introduced to a wellness method that promoted physical and mental well-being. Yoga taught me to tune in to my body and care for myself, taking me to the next level of wellness. My spiritual connection deepened. My focus sharpened. I learned to respect my body and mind in new ways, not just as a tool for achievement. Just being me, was enough. And it was a completely freeing experience.
Yoga, was the gateway to a new life. I practice regularly as well as study and experience many different types of holistic healing methods. Today, I am healthier and stronger than ever, mentally and physically. I no longer punish my body with overly-challenging workouts, but rather listen my body's feedback on how to proceed. When my little pains creep back in, with proper alignment and modifications, yoga gives me a way to workout safety.
My illness and healing have both been a great gift. But it doesn’t end there. I earned my 200 hour CYT (Certified Yoga Teacher) accreditation at Empower Yoga under instructor/owner Suzy Midbrod- Weyenberg. My teaching style is upbeat, fun, and thoughtful, focusing on Vinyasa Flow. Sometimes, I’ll work in an uplifting message, theme, as well as healing Reiki energy individually or to the room, as I am also an Usui Reiki Master and Integrative Energy Worker. My goal is to meet my students where they are at, making my classes accessible to all, yet offering a good workout for those who like to push their edges. In teaching yoga, I strive to not only deepen my own practice, but to help others find health and healing, perhaps even launching their own wellness journey.
