Lucero Barry

Lucero has taught in New York, Boston, Cambridge, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. Lucero received her B.F.A. in dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, with an emphasis on choreography and teaching. After graduation, she moved to New York City where she spent eight years studying and teaching dance. She taught at Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Floating Hospital, Homes for The Homeless among other places. In 1989, to support her dancing career, she began taking classes in the Pilates Method with great teachers such as, Cary Regan and Bob Liekens.  In 2000 Lucero completed a rigorous certification program with Romana Kryzanowska, a pupil of Joseph Pilates himself. In 2012, Lucero became a certified MELT instructor by Sue Hitzmann, the Methods creator. MELT sets people up for a deeper experience in Pilates. Throughout the years she took many workshops with Jean-Claude West, a renowned kinesiologist who shifted a paradigm by combining knowledge of human biomechanics with the Pilates repertory. She also has taken many Pilates workshops in New York, San Francisco and Seattle.  In As cross-training, Lucero has run marathons and practices yoga.  She is also a dedicated meditation practitioner. All of these practices influence her teaching.
