Andee Smith discovered yoga in 2001 during a brutally cold February in downtown Chicago. As a newbie to Midwestern winters, any activity that didn’t require her to leave her building was appealing. Always up for trying new things, when yoga appeared on the community room schedule she was the first to sign up. Andee immediately enjoyed the physical benefits and challenges of the practice but knew there was something more. A move to California and three kids later, she discovered exactly what that something was.

“Yoga has always provided me with a sense of community regardless of what was happening around me. A new location. A new home. A new job. A new baby. No matter the changes, when I stepped onto my mat in a room full of people I immediately felt like I belonged. I felt safe. Everything was going to be ok.”

Another cross-country move landed the Smith family in Charlotte where they have resided since 2007. Andee began teaching yoga to share the sense of peace she enjoys from the practice. When asked about her favorite style of yoga, Andee shared, "In my own practice I’m drawn to the extremes. I especially enjoy highly physical hot power classes and slow, cool, meditative YIN classes. But it’s rare that I have the time do both. Slow Flow gives me a taste of each, so if I had to pick only one that would be it."
