Bruce Barney

Certified by the PTR in 1981, and a student of renowned teacher Dennis Van Der Meer, Bruce has more than 35 years playing and teaching experience. He has been a Head Pro at Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club in New York City since 1996, and in 2003 was named Asst. Director of Tennis, in charge of adult prgrams as well as a full schedule of private and group lessons. He is a certified racquet stringer with the USRSA, having worked on tour for many of the world's top pros. He has worked internationally with Tennis Ventures as a traveling Pro to the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, and is a founding faculty member for the Tennis Congress in Tucson AZ., and is an Elite Etcheberry certified trainer in Strength, Conditioning and Movement. Originally trained as an archeologist and later receiving his M.A. in Theatre, Bruce over the years has combined active careers in both tennis and acting, appearing Off Broadway, in film and on TV (The Sopranos, Law and Order). Bruce's clinics and group lessons are known for their fast-paced drills and stroke analysis, as well as their originality, workout and fun.
