Mary Peterson is a native of Virginia and grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She attended the University of Virginia, graduating in 1983 with a BS in Psychology. After graduation Mary lived in Frankfurt, Germany for several years working as a civilian with the US Army. While overseas, she traveled throughout Europe and then spent some time backpacking around the globe before returning to the US. She has lived in the states of Wisconsin, California, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Wherever she has lived, Mary enjoys a variety of sports including swimming, surfing, skiing, cross country skiing, kayaking, hiking and cycling. Mary completed four cycling century rides in 2015 and 2016.
Mary was first introduced to yoga in 2007 through an Ashtanga yoga class and developed her own practice at that time which she maintains several times a week. In 2013 she received her 200 RYT certification from the Charlottesville (Virginia) Yoga School where the training focused primarily on the Ashtanga primary series, but also included a sampling of classes in other styles of yoga and the study of yogic teachings. She has attended several workshops at the Yogaville ashram in Buckingham, Virginia. Mary has two grown children and currently enjoys life in beautiful Lexington, Virginia with her husband and their two dogs.
