Martha began her yoga journey in 2008 through the help of a back injury and chronic knee issues. After teaching Hi –impact group fitness classes in her early 20’s, she searched for a more body friendly aerobic workout. She took her first Hot power yoga class in 2008 and quickly learned that her mat was a source of healing energy both physically and mentally. In 2013 she decided to enroll in a 200 hour yoga teacher training course thru Radiant Core Yoga, Rommy Kirby,
in the Nashville Area and began teaching Vinyasa Flow Yoga with a emphasis in core strength. While teaching at My Hot Yoga Place in Hendersonville, TN she studied in more detail Yin Yoga, Breathing Techniques, Meditation and Restorative Yoga at Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, NC.
Her classes and workshops are filled with technique cues for all levels, including beginners. Variations and longer sequences will also challenge and inspire seasoned practitioners. Students build strength, flexibility and balance through stability as well as a sense of peace and clarity in their everyday life.
In July 2014, Martha suffered a detached retina in one of her eyes and it changed her practice and teaching forever. After a 4 hour eye surgery, the only place she found comfort was on her mat. One week after her surgery she was at a workshop with Bryan Kest, in child’s pose for 2 hours, just listening to the flow and enjoying the love and energy from the room. Since then, she has consulted with both Ophthalmologists and Retinal doctors to create a challenging and Healthy Ocular practice. Her passion is to educate anyone with eye disease, history of eye surgeries or unfavorable genetic components on the safest way to practice.
Then came June of 2015 when she embarked on the journey of her lifetime and traveled to Rishikesh India, the birthplace of yoga, to study with Swami Sudhir Anand at Shiva Yoga Peeth. Over her 30 days of intensive immersion into Hatha and Ashtanga training, she developed her personal practice as well as her teaching skills and knowledge. She returned home a 500 RYT and filled with new passion for teaching and a new love of Pranayama techniques and practice. In the fall of 2015 she started teaching for more facilities including Golds Gym of Smyrna, TN and Anytime Fitness of Gallatin
Spring of 2016 brought more changes and challenges. Her Father was placed in Hospice and Martha quit a full time sales position to help care for him. Yoga was a sanctuary not only for her practice but a meditative practice while teaching. From March 2016 to late summer, Martha taught 15-20 classes a week. In September of 2016, she returned to Rishikesh again, this time to help teach public classes on the banks of Mother Ganga. While she was there, she taught 2 classes a day of Hatha yoga to tourist in the area. A experience of a lifetime.
After teaching for 12 years, Martha decided to embark on a mission of also teaching yoga teachers. In 2024 she graduated 9 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified teachers thru The Clouds Yoga Club on St Simons Island Georgia, US.
Martha is currently managing and teaching at Sea Island Resort in Southeast Coastal Georgia, a Forbes 5 star facility as well as teaching Private Clients.
Yoga has changed her life and taught her how to accept her feelings, her body and most importantly how to open her heart and share healing energies to everyone she comes in contact with.
