Michelle’s Biography

Hair Dresser

• Opened own business (Hair salon) in January 1983 in Badger and continued for 29 years cutting hair. During this time was evacuated for forest fires and floods. Lost everything in the business during the big flood of 2003. Set up shop in GFW while rebuilding the business and returned in May to full operation until retiring for haircutting in June of 2011 for continued education and a new beginning and chapter on the journey of life.

             Karate

• 33 years training in Traditional karate
• Current ranking: Yon Dan (4^th degree Black) 2007 Examiner Sensei Nishiyama, San Dan (3^rd Degree) 2000. Ni Dan (2^nd Degree) 1993 Sho Dan (1^st Degree) 1991,

• Competed Internationally from 1994 – 2008
• Won World’s 2004 in Davos, Switzerland- FUKU GO (First Canadian to win World’s)
• Nishiyama cup 2003/2005/ 2007 ( Poland, Only top 8 competitors in the World invited)
• Canadian Team coach/ manager 2014 in Geneva, 2015 in Brazil, 2016 Poland)
• President of Provincial Newfoundland JKA
• Canadian National tournament director on TKIC board
• Vice- President of the NTKF board
• Chief Instructor/owner of Exploits Traditional Karate Club
• National Level A Kata/Kumite Judging certification
• President of Provincial Fund Raising committee
• Competed at Nationals 2018 at 56 after a 10 year absents. Won Gold in kata, Silver Fuku Go and

Bronze Kumite

• Chairperson of the TOC to host World’s October 26^th- 27^th, 2018 St. John’s Newfoundland

Yoga

200 hour certified Yoga Instructor for 8 years. Operating a studio for 9 years and now have two other yoga teachers working in the same space to fill the demanded for yoga practice in the community

Personal trainer: Certified personal trainer with CanfitPro since 2011 and have lead both group training as well as one on one.

Thai Massage

Certified Thai yoga massage practitioner for 2 years and in that time performed 350 treatments

Rehabilitation

Working part time at Live Fit Rehabilitation Clinic for 5 years as a trainer for Occupational Rehabilitation.
