I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years and have been most greatly influenced by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar- a true master at the art, poetry and science of yoga. As a writer, I enjoy the metaphor one can apply in working with the body and mind to express micro and macro themes and as a teacher I love exploring the use of language to direct and deepen the experience of my students. I believe yoga is a medium for cultivating inspiration by way of moving precious energy through the body. My classes offer carefully designed sequencing to explore the depths of the physical body to influence the stilling of the mind. My teaching style is one of inclusivity and encouragement with a through-line that emphasizes breath, internal awareness, alignment, and grounding gently guiding each student back to their true nature and inner home while attempting to meet each individual student where they are.  In addition to teaching group classes, I offer one-on-one individualized yoga instruction and specialize in introducing beginners to yoga, fine-tuning and helping one advance their practice, modifying practice around injury/illness, and using yoga to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. I am currently under the mentorship of Jill Johnson and Faith Russell (Yoga Co-op of Madison) to assess for Iyengar Yoga certification in the fall of 2020.
