Mirja Vahala

Mirja's passion for fitness began when joining a track and field club, winning gold and silver provincial metals for the 800 and 1500 metres respectively and attaining 10th fastest in Canadian Track Clubs for the PeeWee age group. In her 20s she taught aerobic classes for the YMCA. In her 30s and early 40s, training for Sprint Triathlons was a fun challenge. During her career as a graphic designer, she kept to her own training schedule and then re-certified as a Group Fitness Instructor in 2018. She has since taught group fitness on behalf of the Castlegar Community Complex.

Mirja teaches 20/20/20, a mix of cardio, strength and flexibility, as well as Cardio Core. She enjoys providing alternatives for the various fitness levels, as well as to keep classes interesting by using Bosu Balls, Step, Bands, TRX and circuit training.

She and her husband enjoy waterskiing and trapezing as well. As a long time art instructor, she loves to teach and pass on fitness tips and to inspire people to be fit.
