The first time I practiced yoga, my life changed forever. I began to explore yoga in high school when I developed back issues from the sports I was playing. I soon began to rely on yoga for so much more than the physical practice, it enlivened me to a world of deeper self-awareness. I vividly remember the first time I came out of savasana… it was an immediate release and I was completely aware that I was exactly where I needed to be.
After high school, at 18 I took a soul journey, travelling alone to India, Nepal and Tibet to “discover myself”. It was on this journey that I found my true passion for yoga and meditation and dove deep into the practice.
When I was 20, my father passed away in a ski accident and I was there with him when he died. It was yoga that really brought me peace after his death. I would come to my mat each day to simply breathe and feel. This has shaped my teaching style by highlighting the importance of presence and to tap into that feeling of being fully alive! This experience has taught me that each and every person is carrying their own “baggage”, but no matter how tough life can be, we always have something to be grateful for.
I completed my 250 hour yoga teacher-training certificate in the summer of 2012 at The Yoga Passage in Calgary Alberta. I taught vinyasa, hatha, power and yin for several years before then completing my advanced 300 hour yoga teacher training in India in 2016 while on a year-long world trip with my fiancé. In addition to the 500 hour teacher training, I have completed courses in pre/postnatal yoga, kid/youth yoga, yoga nidra as well as yoga biomechanics. My classes are heavily influenced by my love of anatomy to find deeper alignment, strength and ease in yoga poses.
My goal is to help people develop a practice where they move mindfully to promote awareness, healing and connection. Yoga does not stop at a physical practice but extends past the self by creating a community fostering love, joy and acceptance.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in International and Community Development Studies and when I am not teaching yoga I am a social worker, event planner, tattoo artist and community builder.
