For the majority of his life, Terrell Thomas has served people of in various capacities. As the senior partner of The Thomas Law Firm, P.L.L.C., Mr. Thomas has represented several clients in Detroit and Wayne County in various areas of the law, including Personal Injury, Criminal, Real Estate, Probate, Family and entertainment. In addition, Mr. Thomas has handled several cases pro-bono for indigent clients and he remains concerned about the rights and concerns of individuals in our community.

 

Mr. Thomas also served as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Highland Park from 1997 to 2001. During his tenure at Highland Park, Mr. Thomas served on several boards, including the Emergency Water Review Board and the Pension Boards of Highland Park. In addition, Mr. Thomas was the city prosecutor for the 30th District Court. All who have encountered Mr. Thomas have found him to be a fair and just man and were honored to be working with him. With the permission of the 30th District Court, Mr. Thomas implemented a Misdemeanor Youth Review Program were youth who were charged with misdemeanors would have to serve a probationary period with the City Attorney's Office. This program including resume development, job training and essay writing. This type of initiative shows the dedication and respect that Mr. Thomas not has for the law and the passion and compassion that he has for being fair, just and in touch with the community he serves.

 

 

Before his tenure as an attorney, Mr. Thomas was an Adult Education Teacher for the Detroit Public Schools from 1992 to 1994. Placed at Christian Guidance Center, Mr. Thomas taught disadvantaged men who were serving incarceration terms for various crimes. His ability to teach and reach these men educationally, socially and spiritually proved to be invaluable as to the rehabilitation process of these young men. His commitment to the educational process and the youth in our community did not stop there. Mr. Thomas has participated in several career days in the Public School Systems in Wayne County and has provided a forum for the youth to act out legal positions by putting on mock trials for students. This talent was put on display during the summer of 1993, where Mr. Thomas was one of two instructors for Wayne County Neighborhood Legal Services. During the summer, Mr. Thomas assisted in preparing students for a mock trial, which was conducted in front of the Honorable Craig Strong of the 3rd Circuit Court for the County of Wayne.

 

Mr. Thomas attended law school at the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1993. While at U of D-Mercy. Mr. Thomas served as the Black Law Student Association president from 1992 to 1993. In addition, he served as assistant minority affairs advisor where he was able to assist in getting more minority students in to the law school. He also served on the Alumni Board of Directors from 1993 to 1994.

Before attending law school, Mr. Thomas was a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1998. Before college, Mr. Thomas attended Cass Technical High School where he graduated in 1984. Mr. Thomas has never been adverse to hard work. In fact, during his tenure at the University of Michigan, Mr. Thomas worked as Special Projects Assistant to Councilman Nicholas Hood, Sr. Little did we know that this experience with Councilman Hood would prove invaluable to Mr. Thomas's development as a future leader of our community. This position served as the apex for Mr. Thomas's call to public service. From 1992 to 1994, Mr. Thomas also served as a law clerk for Wayne County Corporation Counsel under the Administrations of former corporation counsels Saul Green and our now Governor Granholm. He has held several other positions in the business world which has prompted him to venture on this current journey.

 

In 1997, Mr. Thomas’s career took a dramatic turn. He had awakened on May 23 of that same year and could not breathe. About an hour later he went to the hospital for an examination and the doctor told him that there was nothing wrong with him. Well, Mr. Thomas asked how could that be. Mr. Thomas went home and took his own blood pressure and found that his blood pressure was extremely high. He then got on the scale and weighed himself. The results were mind blowing. He weighed 332 pounds. As a former athlete and active person. Mr. Thomas knew that something had to be done. He took matters in his own hands and joined a health facility called FitnessWorks in the new center area of Detroit, Michigan.  There, he discovered the importance of exercise and healthy living. He participated in a number of group exercise classes and designed an individual workout for himself that several individuals use to date. The weight came off at a perfect pace. After the weight loss of 130 pounds, Mr. Thomas wanted to share his knowledge with others and the importance of not only exercise but a healthy lifestyle. Thus, Mr. Thomas became a certified spinning and fitness instructor and to this date, has one of the more popular exercise classes in the area.

 

With his partnership with Andrea Lindsey, Mr. Thomas expanded his horizons into the world of holistic healing. Thus, in 2007, he became a Qigong master while studying the art in Beijing, China under the direction of Dr. Xiu. To date, Mr. Thomas is passionate about healthy living which has certainly saved his life and is elated about the opportunity to share that with others.
