Carole Gist, the first African-American to be crowned Miss USA 1990 and first runner-up to Miss Universe is the proud mother to Tylar (28) and Keith (24). Her daughter Tylar, who trained at various local dance schools and is now a professional dancer in NY where she was a company member of the Garth Fagan Dance Company and is currently studying at Alvin Ailey. Carole, who started dancing very young and continued through high school until she was told to decide between dance and track. Although, Carole chose sports, she never lost her passion for dance. Carole, as a fitness professional, after decades of group fitness instruction and personal training, operates Royal Physique Fitness, is the Wellness Coordinator at WSU’s recreation and fitness center and enjoys mentoring and cultivating other fitness professionals as a lecturer in the college of education.
