Amy holds a MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Graduate Level Certificate in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis (GLCMA) from Columbia College Chicago. She began teaching Pilates in 2000, under the training of recognized teachers Lesley Powell and Doris Pasteler Hall. She subsequently spent a year and a half studying functional anatomy with Irene Dowd (NY); other influential teachers include Barbara Mahler and Patrick Strong.
Before relocating to Wisconsin, Amy danced professionally as well as held a private Pilates practice at Movements Afoot, in New York, NY. In 2004, Amy founded Studio B Pilates, a mindful movement studio dedicated to addressing proper body mechanics and movement patterning for enhanced movement performance.
Amy's work is a culmination of her training in Pilates, Functional Anatomy, Bartenieff Fundamentals and Laban Movement Analysis. She has extensive experience working with dance correctives and scoliosis; as well as with people in each stage along the continuum of disease to optimal health. Her work focuses on development of core support and balanced flexibility, with greater awareness and control of movement patterns.
In 2010 she became a faculty member for the Pilates education branch of Balanced Body under the tutelage of Nora St. John. Since then she has trained new teachers in Pilates Mat, Reformer, Apparatus, and Anatomy throughout the United States. Amy was recently a guest teacher at Core Pilates in Honduras and has taught 'Pilates for Scoliosis' at the International Curvy Girls Scoliosis Convention.
Amy is currently an Associate Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, where she teaches movement analysis and Co-Directs the Pilates Teacher Training Program in the Department of Theater and Dance. She has taught movement analysis, somatics and modern dance at UW-Madison, Lawrence University and as a guest lecturer at Beloit College. In addition, Amy co-founded The Artist In Residence (AIR) Project, a Wisconsin based non-profit organization producing collaborative and innovative performing arts programming.
