Shaleen received her certification from The Yoga Institute of Houston in 2004, including major instruction from Stan Hafner, and additional training from Doug Swenson and Srivatsa Ramaswami. She is a member of the Yoga Association of Houston. In 2005, she additionally became certified as an AFAA group instructor and subsequently pilates and cycle. Shaleen’s teaching style is a result of her personal practice & training: a blend of Asthanga/Power Yoga and the traditions of Viniyoga. Asthanga/Power Yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a fluid series of postures (asanas) in order to create heat within the body- the result is a light, strong body. Viniyoga is a tradition of teaching yoga that emphasizes the individual’s place in life. Although everyone may not be able to do all the postures, there are modifications of the postures which may give them the same effects. The goal of Viniyoga is to protect, maintain, and increase the body’s health.
