Adrian Court

Adrian Court is the owner of Court Tennis, and Head Tennis Professional at World Health Calgary. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, he moved to the United States to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) in Biology. From 2004-2016, he was a Tennis Professional at Calgary Winter Club.

Anticipating what has now become known as a multilateral training model, Adrian participated in a variety of sports as a child and teenager. He was a AA hockey player, played Volleyball in the Ontario Summer Games for his region, and began playing tennis at age 8. He was his high school’s Junior Male Athlete of the Year for 1991-1992. At age 12, Adrian quit hockey in order to focus on tennis. Despite not having any coaching he was his high school’s Singles Champion twice and achieved Top 10 Doubles U18 and Top 5 Men’s Open Doubles rankings. Working at the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre gave him 24/7 access to facilities, and he often trained late into the evenings. He travelled regularly to St. Catherines to train with his doubles partner, who introduced him to the idea of pursuing a tennis scholarship to a US university.

In 1995, Adrian was recruited by Marc Walters to join the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s tennis program. He had also received offers from Armstrong State University, the University of South Carolina at Aiken, but chose UNK because of the quality of their coaching and their 70% scholarship commitment. This was the first time that Adrian had coaching and good training partners. On the strength of his developing serve-and-volley game, he became the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (NCAA – RMAC) doubles champion.

As part of a coaching career that began over 25 years ago, Adrian has made a marked contribution to the growth of the sport in Alberta. In addition to his duties as a club professional, he has been an Alberta Provincial Team coach and course facilitator for Tennis Alberta. He coached a Tennis Alberta team, who competed as part of a friendly competitive program through the Alberta government and the Gangwon province of Korea. He has achieved Tennis Canada Coach 2 certification.

Adrian continues to train and compete. In tennis tournaments, he has won singles championships at the 35+ Western National Singles and the 35+ Calgary Senior ITF, and doubles championships at the Alberta Open and Saville Open. He competes regularly in marathons and triathlons. He is a Banff Subaru Triathlon Overall Champion. His personal best Half Marathon is 1 hour, 19 minutes. You might be surprised at how often you catch him on the treadmills, working out in the gym, or cycling!
