My name is Samantha Grimes, a.k.a “Zumba Sam” or “Sammy G” in the Zumba and Pound world! I fell in love with group fitness at a young age as I would accompany my mom to her weekly group exercise classes. After taking my first Zumba class on my first day of college at Towson University in August 2012 I knew that I wanted to join the Zumba Nation. That November I got certified as an instructor and started teaching multiple classes at Towson University during the semester and in the surrounding area of my hometown, Princeton, NJ when I was home on breaks. I became a ZIN member in early 2013 and have been utilizing the marketing materials, community outreach, music and choreography, and other fun resources ever since. My senior year I was the Group Exercise Manager and planned several events and handled scheduling and other administrative responsibilities. Zumba was such a positive part of my college experience. I even met one of my best friends in my Zumba class. She was actually one of my bridesmaids at my wedding this past August! I also met my husband in the fitness center at Towson University! We had an entire engagement photo shoot in the Towson University gym. After my four years at Towson, I continued teaching at the LA Fitness and Merritt Fitness in Towson, MD while I started my full time job as a middle school music teacher. I eventually relocated to Ellicott City to be closer to my job and started teaching at the Retro Fitness of Catonsville. In addition to Zumba I also taught a small group strength and conditioning class called TEAM which stands for “Together we achieve more”. In November 2018 I became certified in Pound Fitness and started teaching Pound at Retro two weeks later. I now teach both Zumba and Pound on a weekly basis at Merritt Clubs in addition to being a full time teacher. Teaching Zumba and Pound through Pro Fitness Travel is an amazing way to combine my love of music and fitness and share my fun, energetic, and engaging teaching style with others outside of the Greater Baltimore Area!
