I was first introduced to yoga 15 years ago while competing as a Collegiate Scholar Athlete. The focus on breath work and slow moving poses did not resonate at the time as I was intensely focused on competitive fast moving races and structured training regimes, which were counterproductive of the practice. Years later, I re-discovered yoga while training on a post-collegiate running team for injury prevention reasons. As my practice evolved – not only did I become physically healthier and faster with enhanced flexibility, yoga improved my comprehensive outlook in races, work, and my relationships.
The goal of yoga in my classes is not to be the most flexible or bendy. One can do yoga beautifully without ever being able to touch your toes. In my classes, your practices begins at your starting point and then I help build a practice with you from there. I aspire to teach others to maintain healthy mindsets and appreciation for what your body can do while inviting the effects of yoga to prevent injuries and mental burnout.
As a runner, Boston Marathon qualifier, corporate executive, and yoga enthusiast (certified RYC 200), my teaching foundation starts with balancing the art of planning ahead and achieving our forwarding thinking dreams, while at the same time – finding presence, mindfulness, and enhanced visualization on and off the mat. For those that are constantly moving beyond one’s limits and potential, you’ll find my classes offer a compliment to your focused training or work regimes – knowing when and how much to strive and when and how much to ‘just be’.
