Heather Krase-Minnick

I have worked for the Douglas County District Court in child welfare since graduating from college in 1997.  I enjoy my work and believe strongly that child protection and when possible, family healing is important.  Working out has been a part of my life since high school.  After graduating from college, I continued working out, decided to train for my first marathon, and eventually was recruited by a fellow runner and group fitness coordinator, Cristal Barnes.  I have taught at a local mom/pop gym, Lawrence Athletic Club (LAC) where I met Cristal, as well as the larger company, Genesis Health Clubs, which bought out LAC.  While my children were young, I also became a certified running coach through Road Runner's  Club of America (RRCA) and I helped to start and support marathon running clubs at a small private school as well as 1 public elementary school.  I have coached a couch to 5k running course, which led up to the runners completing the local Thanksgiving day run put on by runLawrence, a local running club.  runLawrence proceeds from the  T-Day 5k benefit regional school running clubs who complete an application process prior to the race.  Running and teaching fitness classes are an important part of how I stay mentally and physically health in a 8-5 work world which be emotionally taxing.    I am exploring the MELT Method personally and am taking some sessions from newly opened facilities in the KC metro area that seem to be focusing on range of motion and stretching.  I think that this may be an area of fitness that is under served in some fitness facilities and I'm excited to be learning about it as I think about the importance of aging gracefully!
