To Whom It May Concern:
I am interested in obtaining a teaching position within the Wellness Department of a Pennsylvania institution. In December 2006, I received a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology/Health & Wellness Promotion from the University of Pittsburgh. Within the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education, I held a position as a Graduate Research Assistant. My responsibilities included assisting in wellness laboratory research and instructing several undergraduate courses including sports and drugs, yoga/Pilates, personal fitness and weight training.
Prior to my graduate studies, I taught both Health and Physical Education at Burlington High School in Burlington, Vermont. As a novice educator, those two years of experience were invaluable in that I had the opportunity to work with a truly diverse group of students; work in a team setting to reform the wellness curriculum, and pilot my own movement course to better serve Burlington’s student population.
Furthermore, additional teaching experiences include instructing osteoporosis prevention classes (HOPE) for Highmark at local organizations, instructing Pilates/Yoga and coaching a run club for the YMCA, coaching gymnastics, and completing my student teaching internships at CVU High School and Malletts Bay Elementary School both in Vermont in 2002.
As an avid marathon runner and retired elite gymnast, my passion for movement is a lifestyle not just a profession. As a strong advocate for physical activity and health, I believe my background and training in the fields of Health/Physical Education and Exercise Physiology, my experience working with diverse populations, and my personal/professional strengths would be an asset to any institution.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Karen Peters
