Beth Gottung

I am a former championship college field hockey coach, turned yoga instructor.  I served as the Head Field Hockey Coach at Montclair State University in New Jersey from May 2002-March 2015.  During that time I won over 200 games and took my team to seven NCAA tournaments, including playing for a National Championship in 2012. I am still the most winning field hockey coach in program history and the only female coach to bring her team to a National Championship game in school history. I have been an athlete all my life and coaching since 2000.  I also have my own coaching video that was produced and sold by Championship Video productions and is still available on Amazon.

The skills that made me a championship coach allow me to be a successful yoga instructor.  I am confident in leading a group, I provide clear instructions, and can breakdown movements and poses into easy-to-understand cues.  I began taking yoga in 2007 but became a yoga enthusiast in 2015.  Since then I've practice three times per week and continued to build my skills and practice.  I completed my 200-hour yoga certification in March 2020 and have been teaching regularly since.  I've also completed several in-studio workshops including arm balances and inversions.

In addition to yoga, I'm an avid swimmer. I also run and take HIIT classes.  I've completed half marathons and short distance triathlons.  I played field hockey and lacrosse in college.

As I'm currently working from home due to the pandemic, I have tremendous flexibility to travel and deepen my yoga practice and teaching skills.  Throughout my life, I have traveled to Australia, South America, and Europe on many occasions.  I have a valid passport and I'm willing to explore new opportunities.  I was supposed to go to South Africa in April 2020 but the trip was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

I work as the Director of Development at KIPP New Jersey in Newark.  KIPP is a public charter school network focused on providing quality schools in areas that have been historically educationally underserved. We currently operate 15 schools across two cities and have over 7,000 students.
