Bernard Blyther

In 2005, I left my job as director of a child development center and moved from Washington, DC to Baltimore to start investing in real estate. Over the next 10 years, my family and business grew. Although things appeared to be going fine, I was miserable. In 2015, everything came to a head. I was overweight, suffering from backpain, depression and moving further into physical and emotional isolation. After the recommendation from a therapist I tried a yoga class and was hooked. It was tiring but I was energized at the same time. I kept practicing consistently over the next few years and in 2019, I decided to take the 200-hour yoga teacher training course.

Once I completed the training and received my certification, opportunities to teach just started coming. Initially I had no interest in teaching but after passing on numerous opportunities I said yes to teaching children in the Howard County School System (HCSS). I began accepting every opportunity that came my way. The more I taught and shared my love for yoga the more people expressed interest.

Yoga has been life changing for me, I am able to do things with my body I would never have imagined trying. I’m stronger, calmer and more aware of my physical and mental actions. Yoga is how I found my inner peace. Having the ability to share something that has given me tools to change my life is an absolute honor. I look forward to shining my light while encouraging others to shine bright.

The only thing that will conquer darkness is light.
