Mercii Thomas

Mercii (she/her) is an educator, advocate, and survivor who is passionate about expanding accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity in wellness spaces. Born and raised in Maryland, she is a proud alumna of Howard University, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology and master's degree in Education Administration.

Following graduation, she moved to California to work for the statewide, community organizing branch within a national network of faith-based groups. While there, she helped to coordinate the black caucus for the national network. Upon moving back to the east coast, she worked as an administrator for the high performing, charter high school in Washington, D.C. This served to inspire her new roles with nonprofit organizations that served teachers and students alike with the hopes of improving educational quality and thus quality of life.

To improve the quality of her own life, she began practicing yoga as a way to stay active and increase flexibility. It became so much more than that. In order to deepen her practice, she worked as a Karma Yogi at a black-owned yoga studio in Washington, D.C. for several years. It was here that she developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of the yoga community and nurtured the desire to share yoga with those around her. In 2016, she began teaching elementary physical education and health while coaching high school cheerleading.  She began incorporating yoga and mindfulness into instruction, classroom management, and even her interactions with others with overwhelmingly positive outcomes.

In 2020, she completed my 200-Hour teacher training in Denver, CO with the hopes of creating more spaces for others to experience mindfulness and yoga.  She is very excited to encourage people to move mindfully and launched MovewithMercii.com to make more connections. In addition to teaching yoga and mindfulness, she is a Coach for Colorado Youth Congress' Racial Justice Campaign and Summer Internship and consultant speaker with the All-State Foundation Survivor Network. When she's not practicing, she loves to spend time with friends - in person or online, painting, and watching quality anime and/or Marvel movies.
