My Yoga journey started at a point on my life after having my son and I wanted to work on getting in better shape so that I could keep up with him in his childhood. I have always struggled with my weight and as a child and teen did not like being active. After having my son, I opened up to the possibilities of new ways to relieve stress and exercise became one of my ways to do this. Yoga helped me to lose a little over 50 pounds, and while I am still not at my goal weight, the confidence that I have gained while practicing Yoga has been tremendous. It is important that I showcase that there is not one type of yoga body, but that all bodies are capable of practicing yoga.

During my journey with Yoga, I found that there were not many instructors that looked like me. At least not instructors that were widely publicized through YouTube or other various social media sites. This is what first encouraged me to seek out Yoga Teacher Training, in addition to starting my non-profit Black Girls Bend Inc. I want young black girls to be exposed to the value and power of Yoga and Meditation and use these tools to lead a healthier lifestyle. To learn more about my non-profit please visit bgbinc.org.

What brought me to Fit Bodies, is while on vacation in Punta Cana the Breathless resort I stayed at had a yoga class taught by a Fit Bodies Instructor. We spoke and I was able to tell her how much I enjoyed being instructed by her, and it was my first experience in person with a Black instructor. I told her that because of these limited experiences that made me seek out learning to teach.
